The sun was slowly setting. A drizzle of rain started to fade away, and the faint glow of blue and orange neon began to cut through the grey sky. The sultry throb of disco pulsed in the air. The love from a divine feminine presence began to flood the dance floor.
This was the setting for the Cookie x Discotheke takeover.
Cookie is a Los Angeles-based party whose intention is to bring house music back to its queer and minority roots. The all-queer-female-led project is new to the LA scene. Very new. They have yet to reach their first birthday, and they’re already rattling the hyper-masculine LA dance music scene. The ladies have three sold-out parties under their belt and a forthcoming collaboration with Outloud for an official after-Pride event; to say the “girls are girling” would be putting it lightly.
We had the opportunity to attend the Cookie takeover at Discotheke, a locally renowned disco event hosted by Rej Dhingra and Parker Maass, at Apotheke Bar on May 3, and it was an infectiously joyous evening. The energy at the Cookie parties is unmatched. It’s magnetic. Hypnotic. The party was an energetic sugar rush that can only be felt when you “take a bite,” as Cookie would say.
The evening featured a decadent lineup of b2bs featuring 21_sav_auge, fun2bjane, BRI GIGER, chloe404, JANUARYxBLACK, Shark Faicol, and a special guest headliner goshfather
along with alexnoize and promnite.
